Illegal extraction of minerals: Police arrests 11 persons, seizes 11 vehicles

Srinagar: Police in Budgam arrested 11 persons and seized 11 vehicles involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals, a police spokesman said Friday.

He said that police received an information about illegal extraction and transportation of minerals from government land at Bonhama. Accordingly, a police party raided the specific location and seized 11 tippers (bearing registration numbers JK05B-3056, JK04-7055, JK02S-9043, JK02AV-9170, JK04A-6187, JK05B-4809, JK04B-0218, JK05A-5664, JK05B-2374, JKO8F-6325 & JK04A-2260).

The accused drivers were also arrested and have been identified as Shahnawaz Ali Hajam resident of Labartal, Mohammad Imran Shah resident of Hajibagh Budgam, Suhail Ahmad Baba resident of Hajibagh Budgam, Firdous Ahmad Rather resident of Bemina Khumani Chowk, Nazim Hussain resident of Pallar Budgam, Nisar Abbas resident of Shalina Budgam, Gazanfar Ali Rather resident of Hasnain Coloney Ichgam, Shabir Ahmad Wani resident of Zurigund Budgam, Shafayat Hussain Dar resident of Reshipora Budgam, Farooq Ahmad Rah resident of Nundresh Colony Bemina and Javid Ahmad Ganie resident of Heeuder Budgam, the spokesman added.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 146/2022 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Beerwah and investigation set into motion, he said.

The spokesman said that people found indulging in illegal mining activities shall be dealt as per law.
