Police holds Cybercrime Awareness Programme

Handwara: Police in Handwara on Wednesday organised a Cyber Awareness Programme at Police Station Vilgam.
The event was held to generate awareness among masses in view of the surge in cyber related crimes.
The programme was chaired by SDPO Handwara besides, SHO PS Vilgam and other officers were also present on the occasion.
The programme was attended by senior citizens and youth of Vilgam area.
“They were briefed about various types of cyber threats/crimes such as identity theft, credit card fraud, data stealing, cyber stalking, pornography and OTP frauds,” the police spokesman said.
Speaking on the occasion, the SDPO Handwara advised the participants to adopt safe browsing habits to avoid suspicious websites while surfing the internet.
He also appealed to the participants not to share OTPs or bank account details and passwords and to adopt precautions while conducting internet banking and online transactions.
“Participants were also cautioned against accepting friend requests from unknown persons or chatting with unknown persons on social media,” the police spokesman said.
