SMC kick-starts series of programmes under Indian Swachta League
SRINAGAR: A weeklong Swachta drive was kick-started by Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) on Monday under the aegis of Mayor of Srinagar, Junaid Azim Matoo and Commissioner SMC, Athar Aamir Khan.
The event was organised as part of a national programme, Indian Swachata League.
The drive was launched from Sheri-i-Kashmir Park, Where walkathon was flagged-off by Mayor SMC in presence of senior officials from SMC.
The event was attended by a large number of volunteers, and Safaimitras from different wards. Holding placards in their hands, the participants in the walkathon raised general awareness among the people regarding the importance of cleanliness.
SMC Mayor administered a swachhta pledge among cleanliness warriors, asking them to work selflessly for the idea of Clean and Green Srinagar. On the occasion, the volunteers and safaimitras took a pledge that they would devote an ample part of their life in keeping the surroundings neat and clean.
While addressing the launch of the weeklong drive, Commissioner SMC asked the warriors to work for the realization of the dream project, ‘Green and Clean Srinagar’. He also appealed to the general public to lend their hand in making the city neat and clean.
In addition to the programme, a cleanliness drive was also organized from a famous tourist spot Cheshmashahi to Pari Mahal.
A plog run was held from Shalimar NFR bridge to Dug Park Fore Shore Road.
A run was flagged off by Joint Commissioner(S) and Chief Sanitation officer accompanied by senior officials from SMC. The run was attended by a huge number of volunteers and SMC warriors.
