Police arrests four drug peddlers

Srinagar: Police arrested four drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesman said on Thursday.
He said a police party of Police Station Yaripora led by SHO PS Yaripora intercepted a vehicle (Alto) bearing registration number JK15-2063 with two persons on board during surprise naka checking at Badroo, Yaripora.
“During the search, 10 grams of Brown sugar was recovered from their possession,” he said.
The Police have identified the arrested as Sajad Ahmad Baghat son of Ghulam Hassan Baghat and his wife both residents of Kokergund, Yaripora.
“They have been arrested and shifted to PS Yaripora and Women Cell Kulgam where they remain in custody. Vehicles used in the commission of crime have also been seized,” the police spokesman said.
He said that Police Station Behibagh received specific information that one person namely Ghulam Hassan Malik son of Ghulam Rasool Malik resident of Khee Jogipora was indulging in drug peddling and has hoarded a large quantity of narcotic substance in his residential house.
“On receipt of this information, a police party from Police Station Behibagh alongwith Executive Magistrate concerned raided the said location,” the police spokesman said, adding that the officers were able to recover 14kgs of Poppy Straw from the said house.
The accused person was arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law were registered at respective police stations and further investigations have been initiated, the police handout reads.
In Budgam police arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband substance from his possession, the spokesman added.
He said that officers from Police Station Chadoora intercepted a suspicious person at a checkpoint established at Kilkadal Chadoora.
“He tried to flee from the spot after noticing the police party but was apprehended tactfully,” the spokesman said, adding that 505 tablets of Alprazolam and 2.39grams of Heroin like substance (concealed in polythene bag) were recovered from his possession.
The police have identified him as Nisar Ahmed Rather@ Nizkala son of Mushtaq Ahmed resident of Qaisermullah Chadoora.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 160/2022 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Chadoora and investigation was initiated, the spokesman said.
