Police arrests four drug peddlers

Srinagar: Police on Saturday arrested four drug peddlers in different districts of Kashmir and recovered contraband substances from their possession as well.
In a handout issued here, the police spokesman said a police party of Police Post Humhama at a checkpoint established at Sheikhpora intercepted two suspicious persons.
“During search, officers were able to recover 183 capsules of Spascore-Von, 1.5grams of Heroin like substance, cash amount of Rs 29,050/ believed to be the proceeds of narcotic crime and four blank cheques of J&K Bank from their possession,” the handout reads.
The Police have identified the arrested as Tanveer Ahmad Ganie son of Ghulam Nabi Ganie resident of Ompora Budgam and Lateef Ahmad Paul son of Abdul Aziz Paul resident of Sheikhpora Budgam.
“They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody,” the handout reads.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 285/2022 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Budgam and further investigation has been taken up, it reads.
Meanwhile, Police have also arrested two drug peddlers in Bandipora and Handwara and recovered contraband substance from their possession.
The police spokesman said that acting on a specific information regarding movement of drug peddlers towards Sheikh Mohalla Bandipora, a police party of Police Station Bandipora led SHO PS Bandipora established a surprise checkpoint at Madar Chowk Bandipora.
“During checking, Police party signalled 02 suspicious persons to stop, who tried to flee from the spot,” he said, adding that the police party managed to apprehend the male person on spot.
“But the lady managed to flee away after throwing a polythene bag towards her male accomplice,” he said.
The Police party has recovered charas powder from the polythene bags during the search.
“The arrested drug peddler has been identified as Shehzad Ahmad Sheikh son of Lala Sheikh, resident of Sheikh Mohalla Bandipora while the lady has been identified as his wife,” the spokesman said.
He said efforts were on to nab the accused lady.
“Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 139/2022, under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Bandipora and investigation has been initiated,” he said.
The police spokesman further said that a police party from PP Chogal Handwara while on patrolling near Badshah Khan crossing stopped a vehicle bearing registration number JK09C/5991 for checking.
“The person boarding the vehicle was identified as Javid Ahmad Mir son of Mohammad Subhan Mir resident of Sagipora,” he said.
On search, around 170 gm of charas like substance was recovered from his possession, the handout reads.
The arrested has been shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
“Accordingly, a case FIR No. 229/2022 under relevant section of law has been registered in Police Station Handwara and investigation has been initiated,” he said, adding that the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
