GDC Khansahib organises day-long seminar on ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’

BUDGAM: The NSS unit of Government Degree College (GDC) Khansahib on Saturday organised a day-long seminar on the theme ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’, here.
The seminar was organised in collaboration with Women Development Cell.
Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) Khansahib Mehjabeena Akhter was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
In her address, Akhter highlighted the effective implementation of Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) at the grassroots level and appreciated the role of Aganwadi workers in this endeavour.
She also underlined the role of ‘Ladli Beti Scheme’ in Jammu & Kashmir in arresting declining female sex ratio.
Notably, an amount of Rs 1000 is deposited in the bank account of a girl child on monthly basis besides maturity benefits after completing 21 years of age cater to her financial needs including marriage.
“The cases of domestic violence against women are pouring-in on daily basis and property rights to women must become a reality,” she highlighted.
Earlier Principal GDC Khansahib Dr. Syed Tanvir Indrabi laid emphasis on women education and fighting the cultural prejudices that impact women empowerment.
He advocated for an uncompromising attitude towards the health and education of a girl child.
While addressing the gathering, NSS Programme Officer Dr. Sajad Padder talked about the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ initiative; targets achieved and challenges ahead.
The college newsletter ‘Caravan’ was also released on the occasion.
