DC Kupwara chairs Block Diwas at Hangah-Mawar

KUPWARA: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara Khalid Jahangir Thursday chaired a Block Diwas function at Hangah in Mawar block of Kupwara district.
DDC Member Mawar, Khurshid Ahmad Dar, BDC Chairperson Tahir Qureshi, CEO Kupwara, Executive Engineer R&B, AEE PHE, other officers from administration, besides, PRIs and general public attended the block diwas.
The DDC in his address appealed to the people to adopt Covid-19 Appropriate Behaviour (CAB) by wearing masks, maintaining social distance and using hand hygiene in view of the surge in Covid-19 positive cases in the J&K UT.
Referring to the plastic waste, the DDC stressed the need for eradication of the use of plastic from our daily lives adding that it poses a severe risk of pollution to our water bodies, forests and ecosystem and asked the people to use cloth bags for carrying groceries and other stuff to protect the environment.
He directed the PRIs to make added efforts in complete eradication of the plastic waste from their villages as the use of plastic is now banned at national level. He also directed them to make efforts for conservation of water bodies.
Referring to Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSSs), the DDC asked PRIs to identify the people in their areas who are yet to get enrolled under various CSSs including Golden Card, Soil Health Card, PMSBY, PMJJY, Aadhaar seeding for their registration at established Aadhaar enrollment centres.
Regarding employment generation, the DDC appealed to educated unemployed youth to come forward and take benefit under different Government schemes for establishment of income generating units like Bulk Milk Coolers, Walnut processing, Sheep farming and other sectors to earn their livelihood adding that the district has a good scope in these sectors.
The DDC stressed upon the district and sectoral officers to work in a mission mode and ensure timely disposal of the public grievances and completion of developmental works.
DDC Member, BDC Chairperson and other PRIs also spoke and projected their developmental issues before the DC.
The DC heard them patiently and issued on spot directions to the concerned officers for resolving of the issues and various issues were redressed on the spot.
Later, the DC inspected various ongoing developmental works in the Hangah area. He inspected ongoing construction of water filtration plant, Community Hall and directed the concerned officers for completion of the projects within the stipulated time frame. He also inspected Higher Secondary School and Middle School Hangah.
