Pulwama: The residents of Kawani village in Litter Tehsil of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday demanded macadamisation of the main road.
The residents said the road which is around 1.5 kilometers long has never been macadamised till date by the department in the last 60 years.
“Minor link roads are being macadamised everywhere but this main road has never been macadamised till date for unknown reasons. This road connects hundreds of households but is being neglected,” said Aijaz Hussain, a local resident.
“Our school going children and patients are suffering due to the dilapidated condition of the road,” he said.
The residents said the road witnesses heavy flow of traffic but due to its dilapidated condition, people especially elderly and patients face a tough time.
Locals said on August 3 of 2019 work on this road was started and machinery was brought here for its macadamisation as well.
“But a day after special status of J&K was scrapped and later the department did not start the work on this road again,” said Mohammad Jabbar, another local.
The residents said the issue was brought in to the notice of higher ups dozens of times but nothing was done in this regard.
“The officers only give verbal assurances but these assurances prove a hoax on ground,” they said.
The residents urged the concerned authorities to look into the matter at an earliest and macadamise the road so that locals can heave a sigh of relief.
