JK reports 333 fresh covid-19 cases, one death

Wearing of face masks made mandatory at public places in Srinagar, Ganderbal and Bandipora

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir reported 333 covid-19 cases during the past 24 hours, the highest single-day spike in nearly six months, even as one death due to the pathogen was also reported, officials said on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the administration has made wearing of face masks at public places mandatory in three districts of Bandipora, Ganderbal and Srinagar.
187 cases were reported from Jammu division and 146 from Kashmir division, taking the overall tally to 457517, officials said.
Giving district wise details, they said, Srinagar reported 137 cases, Jammu 95, Udhampur 20, Samba 14, Baramulla and Ganderbal 12 each, Budgam 11, Kupwara nine, Anantnag 5, Rajouri three, Doda and Kishtwar two each and Kulgam one.
Among the total cases, 168286 are from Jammu division and 288898 from Kashmir, they said.
There was one death from Jammu region due to the pathogen in the last 24 hours, they said. So far 4760 people have succumbed to the virus—2334 in Jammu and 2426 in Kashmir.
Besides, they said, 70 Covid-19 patients recovered during the last 24 hours—30 from Jammu division and 40 from Kashmir Valley. There are now 1402 active case— 801 in Jammu and 601 in Kashmir.
The officials said that there was no new confirmed case of mucormycosis (black fungus) reported today. So far 51 black fungus cases have been confirmed in J&K, the officials said. They also informed that 23430 doses of covid-19 vaccine were administered during the time in J&K.
Interestingly, authorities in Srinagar made wearing of face masks mandatory at all public places across the district in view of the surge in Covid-19 cases.
According to an order, issued by deputy commissioner Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz there has been recent spike in COVID-19 cases in UT of Jammu & Kashmir.
The order stated that various preventive measures are recommended by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Government of India such as wearing of Face Masks, maintenance of social distance and hand sanitisation etc from time to time as effective means of COVID-19 containment.
“It has become imperative to ensure strict implementation of all preventive measures such as usage of face masks and maintenance of social distance in all the public places across the District to minimise the spread of covid-19 infection,” it added.
The order stated that in view of the above and in order to safeguard public health, use of Face Masks shall be compulsory at all public places in District Srinagar, with immediate effect till further orders.
“Moreover, all district and sectoral officers shall ensure usage of face masks by all officers and officials in the offices,” it reads.
Earlier, authorities in Bandipora and Ganderbal districts had also made wearing of face masks mandatory at public places and government offices in view of the rise in Covid-19 cases.
