BDC Chairperson, DDC member call on DC Shopian

Shopian: Chairman Block Development Council (BDC) Koteranka Rajouri Javed Iqbal Choudhary and District Development Council member from Budhal Rajouri Shazia Kouser Saturday called upon Deputy Commissioner Shopian Sachan Kumar Vaishya.
The duo were accompanied by a delegation of hundreds of tribal families and sought relief and compensation for these families affected by recent snowfall and heavy rainfall.
DC Shopian informed that district administration has initiated proactive assessment measures for the affected families and an amount of Rs 60 Lakh has been approved for compensation under SDRF norms which will be credited to them after completion of due process shortly. He also assured the delegation that inter-departmental teams will be sent to other areas to assess the losses.
BDC Chairperson highlighted the needs for immediate shelter support for these affected families apart from compensation under the State Disaster Relief Fund. He also sought deputation of teachers to schools located in tribal areas. He appreciated the Deputy Commissioner for proactive measures and prompt steps for ensuring timely relief to affected families.
The DDC member during the interaction with the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the loss suffered by hundreds of families from Kotranka-Budhal sub-division in highland pastures of Shopian and sought special relief measures to support the livelihood of these families. She also sought steps for advance weather information to Dhoks through the District Disaster Management Authority teams.
The Deputy Commissioner said that 300 tents have been sanctioned for affected families of Budhal presently in Dhoks in highland pastures of Shopian in the Pir Panjal mountain range. He also issued orders for deputing teachers to schools mentioned by the delegation.
The DC further assured the delegation for every kind of help to migratory tribal families including medical healthcare, veterinary care, social security and livelihood support. He also informed them about other tribal measures underway in the district including a tribal transit accommodation being constructed for migratory families near Pir ki Gali.
