Week-long ‘World Environment Day’ programme culminates

Srinagar: The Department of Environmental Science Government Degree College Beerwah in collaboration with the Department of Botany and NSS Unit on Monday concluded the week-long activities organized to celebrate ‘World Environment Day’.
The events were organised under the slogan of ‘Only One Earth- Living Sustainably in Harmony with Nature’.
Speaking on the occasion Principal GDC Beerwah Prof. (Dr.) Fahmeeda Bano said the role of students and faculty members in promoting and creating a sustainable society by changing our lifestyles and thinking.
She also urged the students to be actively involved in such kinds of activities and act as ambassadors for bringing about positive change in society.
Earlier, the programme started with a lecture by learned speaker, Prof. Javid Iqbal Ahmad, Division of Environmental Science (SKUAST-K). He highlighted the challenges facing humanity caused by unsustainable practices and policies and discussed in detail their solutions.
In his address Assistant Professor Department of Environmental Science, University of Kashmir Dr. Sami-Ullah delivered a lecture on ‘Sustainable Development and Our Responsibilities-Waste Management: Challenges and Solutions’.
The event was followed by the cleanliness and anti-Polythene drive-by NSS unit of the college. In this drive, the volunteers were not only sensitized about the hazardous impact of polythene on the environment but at the same time demonstration lessons were held on the occasion.
