Police arrests three drug peddlers in Anantnag

Srinagar: Police have arrested three drug peddlers in Anantnag and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesman said Monday.
In a handout issued here, the police spokesman said the police party headed by SHO Police station Utrasoo intercepted a load carrier bearing registration number JK02CH-2707 with two persons on board at a checkpoint established at Cheerpora Utrasoo.
‘During search, 40Kgs of Poppy Straw was recovered from the said vehicle,” the handout reads.
The police have identified the accused as Nazir Ahmad Bhat son of Hameedulla Bhat resident of Magam Kokernag and Shabir Ahmad Khan son of Dula Khan resident of Wanigham Kokernag.
“They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody and vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized,” the handout reads.
Moreover, Police party from Police Station Achabal arrested one drug peddler identified as Nissar Ahmad Bhat son of Mohd Ahsan Bhat resident of Khoshi Pora Achabal along with about 12.3Kgs of Poppy Straw.
“He has been shifted to police station where he remains in custody,” the handout reads.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law has been registered in respective police stations and investigation set into motion.
“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law,” handout reads.
