Police arrests three drug peddlers

Srinagar: The J&K Police has arrested three drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances from their possession in Budgam and Anantnag district, the police spokesman said on Wednesday.
The police hand out reads that one accused namely Mohammad Altaf Malik son of Ghulam Mohammad Malik resident of Haripora Haran indulged in drug peddling and hoarded narcotic substances in his residential house.
After receiving the information, a Police party of Police Station Budgam headed by PSI Mohammad Adil Tak raided the specific location, he said.
“During the search, officers were able to recover 3Kgs of Poppy Straw, 125 grams of charas from his residential house. Besides cash worth Rs 13,500 believed to be the proceeds of narcotic crime was also recovered from his possession,” the police handout reads.
The accused has been arrested and shifted to Police Station where he continues to remain in custody.
Meanwhile in Anantnag, a police party from Police Station Anantnag during Naka checking intercepted two persons.
The police have identified them as Haamid Nisar Shah resident of Reshi Colony Mir Dantar Anantnag and Suhail Ahmad Sheer Gojri resident of Brienty Batapora Dialgam.
During the search, 6.5Kgs of Poppy Straw and 28 Codeine Phosphate bottles were recovered from their possession, the police handout reads.
“They have been arrested and shifted to a police station where they remain in custody,” it reads.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective Police Stations and investigation have been initiated.
“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law,” the police handout reads.
“Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” it reads.
