200 Scholarships to be awarded to poor, orphan students

Srinagar: As many as 1200 students including 749 females appeared in the Entrance Test of J&K Yateem Foundation’s (JKYF) Higher Education Scholarship Programme (HESP) across J&K. The students included 50 non muslims as well, JKYF in a handout said.
The entrance was conducted as part of the JKYF’s initiative wherein it is planning to provide 200 scholarships worth Rs 24 Lakhs annually to the meritorious poor and orphan students.
The JKYF had established 22 examination centers across J&K for the smooth conduct of the entrance test.
JKYF’s HESP executive, Mohammad Anwar Malik in a statement said that the examination centers were also established near LoC at Gurez, Machhil, Teetwall and Rajouri.
He said that JKYF deputed over 250 volunteers to conduct the examination.
He said the question paper set for the examination was based on 9th and 10th class syllabus.
“The scholarship shall be awarded at Rs 12000 per annum to deserving poor and orphan students after qualifying the examination,” he said.
Chairman JKYF, Mohammad Rafiq Lone commended the team work of HESP division of JKYF and applauded their hard work, dedication and sense of responsibility in the execution of entrance test in a smooth and hassle free manner.
The Chairman extended gratitude to district level police and civil administration for their support. He thanked all volunteers of JKYF in making this huge exercise a great success.
“I am hopeful that all the meritorious students will work hard with honesty and sincerity to pursue their career to make their lives better and contribute towards socio- economic development of all people in J&K,” he said.
Notably, the entrance was conducted after a gap of two years due to the outbreak of COVID-19.
The JKYF handout reads that hundreds of students have received scholarships under this programme and are currently contributing in different fields.
Meanwhile General secretary JKYF Mohammad Yaqoob Reshi, secretary finance Mohammad Ishaq Shiekh and other senior volunteers visited all the examination centers as micro observers and interacted with the students and the staff there.
