Locals urge DC to intervene, seek completion of road

Anantnag: Resentment is brewing among the locals against the district administration Anantnag for its failure to complete the execution of work on Watnard- Zamalgam road in the last four years.
The locals said the Watnard-Zamalgam road was approved in 2018 and its work was allotted to Khanday infrastructure company with a project cost of Rs 10 crore.
“The work on the road started in 2018 but was halted due to unknown reasons which has caused huge inconveniences to the locals,” the locals said.
The locals said only 30 percent work has been completed in the last four years, speaking volumes about the accountability in the concerned department.
“Unfortunately, no attention is being given towards this grave issue,” the locals said.
The locals complained that they approached the administration a number of times only to return disappointed. “The department buys time by saying that they are waiting for a no objection certificate from the forest department for construction of the road,” the residents said.
“If NoC was mandatory then how 30 percent work was done,” they asked.
They said the department has already received NoC but the authorities were using delaying tactics.
“We brought this issue to the notice of higher ups several times but to no avail,” they said.
The residents requested the DC Anantnag to look into the matter and direct concerned authorities to resume work on it so that it can be completed in a shortest possible time.
Meanwhile, concerned AEE Tariq Ahmad when contacted said the project got delayed due to pending NoC from forest department and compensation claims by some locals.
“The department is working on it and is hopeful to complete the road very soon,” he said.
