Massive crackdown on illegal poppy cultivation carried out

PULWAMA: On the directions of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pulwama, Baseer Ul Haq Choudhary, the Excise Range South Kashmir with the help of concerned Police and revenue authorities Wednesday launched a massive drive to destroy the poppy cultivation in the fields of Bargam, Saimoh Naner, Hardumir, Monghama, Nader, Lurgam, Seer, Pastuna, Khankhah, Midoora, Patalbagh, Lelhar, Samboora, Niloora, Achan and Hajidarpora, here.
DC reiterated his commitment of zero tolerance towards the individuals involved in illegal poppy cultivation.
He said engaging in production, manufacturing, possession, sale, purchase, transportation, warehousing, concealment, use or consumption, import interstate, export interstate of such drugs/substances is illegal under law under section 18 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985.
Choudhary said that the drive would further be extended to other areas of the district where illicit cultivation of narcotic crops such as poppy was done.
It was given out that the Poppy crop has been destroyed in these villages and an FIR had also been lodged with the police authorities for taking suitable action against the landowners under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
