Police arrests two timber smugglers

Srinagar: Police on Monday seized illicit timber at Rathsun crossing area of Budgam and arrested two persons involved in the crime, a police spokesman said.
He said that police personnel at a checkpoint established at Rathsun crossing intercepted a vehicle (Load Carrier) bearing registration number JK13E-8766. During checking, 39 logs of illegal timber were found in the vehicle.
“Two smugglers on board were arrested on spot who have been identified as Siraj-u-Din Bhat son of Ghulam Ahmad Bhat and Sajad Ahmed Bhat son of Sona-ullah Bhat both residents of Rathsun Beerwah. They have been shifted to Police Station where they remain in custody and the vehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized,” the spokesman said.
Accordingly, a case FIR No. 56/2022 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Beerwah and investigation have been taken up, he added.
