Admin assures water supply to Banpora Rakh village

Pulwama: Authorities on Tuesday assured to provide drinking water supply to the residents of Banpora Rakh village in Litter Tehsil of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
The residents had on Monday staged a protest against the Jal Shakti Department for failing to provide potable water to them.
“We are facing shortage of water since last several months but authorities are acting as mere spectators,” they said, adding that they will continue their protests if authorities failed in providing drinking water to the area.
Executive Engineer, JSD (PHE) Div. Pulwama in response to the protest that the habitation Bonrakh falls on the tail end of the WSS Bonrakh Zahidbagh having source nallah.
The revamping of pressure filter has been kept under JJM programme and stands allotted to the contractor who started the work some months back but later stopped halfway, he added.
Further the up gradation of pipe line feeding Bonpora Rakh has also been kept in the allotted work. The contractor has been called in presence of Superintending Engineer Circle Shopin/Pulwama and is being pressed hard to start the work in order to resolve the grievance of the said habitation, he said.
Meanwhile, tanker service has been started and more alternate options will be explored for providing interim relief to the inhabitants of Bonpora Rakh, the official added
