Shopian: The sports lovers from Barbugh village in Imamsahib area of Shopian feel dejected as the government failed to develop a sports field in the area.
Sports lovers from Barbugh said that around 15 kanals land are available in the area which can be developed so that local youth can be engaged in different sports activities.
“We have brought this issue into the notice of district sports officer besides that we have raised this issue in ‘back to villages’ programmes where officers from the district administration assured us that the demand of the youth will be taken up on priority but in reality nothing was done on ground,” locals said.
“As our youth is getting involved in drug addiction, so it is our duty to keep our youth away from drug addiction and best possible way was to engage them in sports activities but we don’t have even the basic facilities available,” a local resident said.
“Last year we met officials of the sports department and brought this issue in their notice who assured that in next financial year it will be developed but nothing has been done as of now,” he said.
“We have now initiated some works from our end as we have hired a leveling machine to make the path of land worthy of using as a sports field,” another local resident said.
He said that the youth once again request the higher officials to look into the matter at an earliest and develop the field so that youth can heave a sigh of relief.
