LeT Commander Nisar Dar killed in Anantnag gunfight, two soldiers injured in Kulgam encounter

Srinagar, Apr 09: A Lashkar-i-Toiba commander was killed in an encounter at Sirhama area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Saturday.

Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar said that LeT commander Nisar Ahmad Dar resident of Redwani Bala Kulgam has been killed in Sirhama.

The top cop further said that he was involved in several crimes and killings in the area. He was active since 6th May 2021.

Meanwhile, searches in the area are still underway.

Earlier reports said that a joint team of Police and army launched a cordon and search operation in Sirhama.

As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight.

Meanwhile, two soldiers have received injuries during initial exchange of fire in ChakiSamad area of DH pora in another encounter at Kulgam.

An official said that two soldiers identified as Rohit Yadav and Ankesh Kumar were injured during initial exchange of fire.

Both have received splinter injuries in their thighs and have been shifted to hospital for treatment, he said.

Reports further said that militants have apparently managed to escape after a brief gunfight with joint team of police and army.

A senior police officer said that there was a lull following which massive searches were launched. He said there was no second contact established with militants nor was anyone arrested, suggesting that the militant fled from the spot taking advantage of the darkness. He however, said that searches in the area were still going on.
