Defacement of boundary walls: SWD refutes allegation, says move intends to highlight beneficiaries

Srinagar: The Social Welfare Department (SWD) Thursday refuted a news item alleging that field functionaries of the department have defaced a boundary wall of a graveyard and some public parks.
“The aim of publishing the name of beneficiaries is to give wide publicity and to bring transparency in the working of the Department, and to identify and ensure that no un-deserving /ineligible person is taking undue benefit of any scheme on cost of deserving one,” a spokesman of the SWD said.
“It is further informed that the detail of beneficiaries of various schemes is also available on the official website of the department also,” he added.
With regard to defacement of the walls of graveyard, it is informed that the department has directed the field functionaries to paint these lists on Government property only. Moreover, the field functionaries are being sensitized to take utmost care while publicizing such names of the beneficiaries, the spokesman added.
The news item regarding defacement and shaming beneficiaries published in one of the newspaper is vehemently rebutted, the spokesman said.
