JKHARA pained at Houseboat fire incidents : Urges administration to provide immediate compensation

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Hotel and Restaurant Association (JKHARA) has expressed shock over the fire incident that left several houseboats damaged completely in Nigeen Lake.
In a statement, JKHARA President Showkat M Chowdhury said the massive fire incident is loss to the tourism and heritage industry of the Kashmir.
He said lot of tourists are attracted to Kashmir for a stay in the houseboats
“Besides, the houseboat owners are one of the main promoters of the Kashmir tourism since ages,” he said.
Chowdhury urged the administration to immediately support and compensate the affected Houseboat Owners.
He also appealed to administration to help the victims build the new Houseboats by giving them permission through Single Window System on fast track basis.
“Besides, the affected families should also be given timber for its construction on subsidized rates,” he said.
The fire started from a houseboat and engulfed adjacent ones. Though locals and police launched a firefighting operation but the houseboats were “substantially” gutted.
