Police arrests three drug peddlers

Srinagar: Police arrested three drug peddlers in Awantipora and Anantnag and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesman said Monday.
He said that a police party at a checkpoint established at Kadlabal Pampore near Bridge intercepted one suspicious person identified as Nasir Ahmad Sheikh son of Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh resident of Kadlabal Pulpar Pampore. During checking, 3.5Kgs of Poppy Straw was recovered from his possession.
Similarly in Anantnag, Police received a specific information through reliable sources that one person identified as Rafiq Ahmad Ganie son of Ghulam Qadir Ganie resident of Krandigam Bijbehara has indulged in drug peddling and hoarded a large quantity of narcotic substances in his residential house. On receipt of this information, a Police party of PS Bijbehara alongwith Executive Magistrate concerned raided the said location. During search, officers were able to recover 930grams of Charas from the said house.
Moreover, in another action, a police party from Police post General Bus-stand at a checkpoint established near Delhi Darbar intercepted a truck bearing registration number PB23J-5865 driven by Gurjit Singh son of Piara Singh resident of Raja Kalan Dasuva Punjab. During checking, 4Kgs of Poppy straw was recovered from the said vehicle.
All the drug peddlers have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody. Besides, vehicle used in the commission of crime have also been seized. Accordingly cases under relevant sections of law stands registered at respective police stations and investigation have been initiated, the spokesman added.
