Taking cognizance of media reports about the closure of Bailey bridge for vehicular movement in Srigufwara area of Anantnag, an official spokesman said that the bridge was dosed for vehicular traffic on 24.01.2022 because the steel joint pins of the bridge stands stolen and there was every apprehension of accident as the bridge was rendered unsafe due to the theft of structural members.
“The Station House Officer, Police Station Srigufwara was informed for lodging of formal FIR vide Assistant Executive Engineer, Seer Letter no: SOS/691-92 Dated:24.01.2022. The matter for launching/restoration of bailey bridge was taken up with Nodal Division i.e. Executive Engineer, Project Construction Division 1, Srinagar vide this Office’s Letter No: 20363-69 Dated:24.01.2027,” the spokesman said.
“The technical team of the Nodal Division visited the site and provided some onsite advises regarding concrete work of the substructure which stands completed by this division. However, there was one more observation that the central pier of the bridge was found in tilted position which compelled the technical team to revisit the decision of launching of 15 Mtr bailey bridge instead has to launch 45 Mtr bailey bridge bypassing the central tilted pier after de-launching the plate girder span portion of the bridge which shall take considerable time for making the bridge trafficable. The matter is at most important and shall be resolved at earliest possible time,” the spokesman added.
