Samba mishap: Four members of a family among five dead

Jammu: Four members of a family were among five persons killed while one person was injured when a vehicle they were travelling in skidded off the road and fell into a gorge in Samba district of Jammu on Saturday, police sources said.
They said that an Innova vehicle bearing registration number (JK01U-2234) met with an accident at Mansar in which four family members hailing from Village Brah Ranipora Annatnag died on spot along with the driver. They were on way from Jammu to Kashmir Valley.
The deceased have been identified as Gulzar Ahmad Bhat (71), his wife Zaina Begum(65), their son Iqbal Ahmad Bhat(25) and daughter Masrat Jan(21). The driver has been identified as Saqib, also a resident of Anantnag. A police officer said a case has been registered and further investigations are underway.
“Deeply saddened to learn about the loss of lives in a tragic road accident in Mansar, Samba. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families. Praying for the early recovery of the injured,” Lieutenant Governor Manoj Siha said in a tweet.
National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Vice President Omar Abdullah also expressed grief over death of five people including four from a family who hailed from Anantnag in a road accident in the Samba district.
Sharing in the grief of bereaved, the duo prayed for peace to the deceased. Meanwhile South Zone President Dr Bashir Veeri, DP Anantnag Altaf Ah Wani, Riyaz Khan also condoled the demise of five people and prayed for peace to departed, a spokesperson of the party said.
Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Ghulam Ahmad and Senior Congress Leader (Ex.MLA) Gulzar Ahmad Wani also expressed anguish over the tragic accident. They said the loss of lives could not be replaced by anything and conveyed heartfelt condolences to bereaved family, according to a statement issued here. (with GNS inputs)
