One civilian dead, 21 including cop injured in grenade attack at Amira Kadal Srinagar
Srinagar, Mar 06: One person was dead and atleast twenty one people including a cop were injured after suspected militants on Sunday hurled a grenade at Amira Kadal area of Central Kashmir’s Srinagar district.
A top police official said that militants lobbed grenade in busy Amira Kadal Market. In this incident one person succumbed at hospital where as 21 people including a cop received splinter wounds.
The identity of the slain person was not immediately known yet.
Meanwhile area has been cordoned off to nab the attackers.
Meanwhile, police said that the person involved in throwing grenade at busy Amira Kadal in which one person was killed and twenty four others including a cop were injured will be arrested soon.
“We are working hard to identify and this militant- criminal and will smash this module also,” Inspector General of Police Kashmir Vijay Kumar said.
Police said while an elderly man was killed, twenty four persons were injured and one of them a young girl is critical and is battling for life at SMHS hospital here. Rest of the injured including a police are out of danger, the police said in a statement.
” A grenade attack took place in the market near Amira kadal bridge at around 4:20 PM,”, police said, adding, ” In this incident, one old man from Makhdhoom Sahib Nowhatta has succumbed to injuries while one girl is critically injured and is battling for life.
Also, 24 other persons including 23 civilians & 1 policeman have received splinter injuries but are out of danger,”.
“In light of this act of grenade throwing in the busy Sunday market near Amira Kadal bridge, the police urged all civilians are requested to be vigilant and report”any suspected activity to thwart the nefarious designs of (militants)”.
“Efforts are underway to nab the culprits behind the attack,” the police added.
Meanwhile, police identified the deceased person as Mohd Aslam Makdhoomi of Makdhoom Sahib Nowhatta.
