JKPC holds meet, elects office bearers

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Press Council, (JKPC) an editor’s body on Thursday held a detailed meeting to discuss the issues confronting the media fraternity in the UT.
JKPC, which has been formed to focus on measures that ought to be taken for the welfare and well being of the media fraternity in Jammu and Kashmir resolved to uphold the true principles of a vibrant media and also stressed on the need to strengthen the fourth estate in Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting attended by Hafiz Ayaz Gani, Editor -Rising Kashmir, Raja Mohiudin, Editor-Tameele- Irshad, Farooq Wani, Editor Brighter Kashmir, Adv Iqbal Ahmed, Editor-Srinagar News, Arshid Rasool, Editor-Daily Ghadyaal, Chasfeeda Shah, Editor- Kashmir Scan, Javed Shah, Editor-Good Morning Kashmir, Shafat Kira, Editor-Kashmir Vision, Iqbal Ahmad (Editor-Kashmir Central (Urdu) and Manzoor Anjum-Editor Daily Uqab also announced its office bearers.
The editor’s body will be headed by Hafiz Ayaz Gani-Editor ‘Rising Kashmir’, who was elected its first President.
Besides, Shafat Kira-Editor ‘Kashmir Vision’ was elected as General Secretary and Iqbal Ahmad-Editor ‘Kashmir Central’ was elected as its Organising Secretary.
The body elected for a period of six months will organise and formalise the setup of the JKPC besides, will ensure to include other credible media organisations under its banner.
“JKPC will have to ensure that genuine media organisations come together and work for the betterment of the entire media fraternity in Jammu and Kashmir,” Hafiz Ayaz Gani said, while addressing the meeting.
He said that media reflects the aspirations of the people and JKPC will have to address the developmental and other day to day concerns of the common man.
The meeting also discussed various measures to uphold the true values of a transparent and vibrant media in the UT and sought suggestions from the JKPC members to help raise the bar for the media Industry.
The JKPC President also advised the members to raise the issues of public importance so that those concerns are addressed and the people’s belief and faith in the fourth estate gets reinforced.
The President JKPC also announced formation of various committees which will undertake various tasks to manage the editor’s body on professional lines.
The President announced formation of a committee which will include Adv Iqbal Wani-Editor ‘Srinagar News’, Arshid Rasool-Editor Daily ‘Ghadyaal’ and Manzoor Anjum-Editor-Daily ‘Uqab’ to finalise the draft constitution for JKPC.
Besides, a committee for outreach was also announced to co-ordinate with other media organisations in Jammu and Kashmir. The committee was tasked to reach out to other credible media organisations so as to work under one banner.
The committee for outreach includes Raja Mohiuddin-Editor ‘Tameel-e-Irshad’ Farooq Wani-Editor ‘Brighter Kashmir’ and Javed Shah-Editor ‘Good Morning Kashmir’.
The President also announced a committee for identifying the concerns and issues faced by the media fraternity. The committee will comprise of Chesfeeda Shah-Editor ‘Kashmir Scan’, Shafat Kira and Arshid Rasool.
