Mughal Road, Bandipora-Gurez road closed for traffic

Srinagar: The higher reaches of Kashmir including the world famous ski-resort, Gulmarg, received fresh snowfall on Friday while rains lashed plains, bringing down the maximum temperature across the Valley.
Deputy Director Meteorological department (MeT), Mukhtar Ahmad said that the day temperature has plummeted across the Valley due to the fresh wet spell, adding that several higher reaches of Kashmir have received fresh snowfall on Friday.
“The minimum temperature has gone up while the maximum temperature has plummeted today,” he said, adding that the day-long wet weather conditions would end till late evening.
“There is a possibility of improvement in the weather conditions from tomorrow. According to the forecast, the weather would remain mostly dry till November 14,” Ahmad said.
According to the officials, Gulmarg, a world famous ski-resort, has received 5 inches of snowfall today.
Moreover, the fresh snowfall at few places including Razdan top and Pir ki Gali has resulted in closure of Bandipora-Gurez road and Mughal road respectively.
Bandipora-Gurez road was closed for vehicular movement after fresh snowfall on Razdan top, an official said.
In view of fresh snow fall and slippery condition of roads in border and hilly areas of Kupwara, the Deputy Commissioner Kupwara also directed to restrict traffic movement from Kupwara to Border Areas including Keran, Karnah, Machil, Jumagund, Budnambal and Kumkadi, both sides, till weather shows some improvement.
The order has been issued to save precious lives from accidental mishaps.
SSP Kupwara, SDM Karnah and Tehsildars of Karnah, Kralpora and Kupwara have been asked to take necessary action.
Authorities in Poonch district also stopped vehicular traffic on Mughal road after fresh snowfall. “We have closed the road for traffic and no vehicle is permitted to ply on the road,” said a traffic official.
Meanwhile, the minimum temperature increased at most places in Kashmir Valley on Friday.
A meteorological department official said that Srinagar recorded a low of 5.6°C against 1.8°C on the previous night.
Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir, recorded a minimum temperature of 3.2°C against previous night’s 0.6°C, the official said.
Pahalgam, the famous resort in south Kashmir, recorded a low of 2.2°C against minus 2.8°C on the previous night, he said.
Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum temperature of 3.1°C against 1.7°C on the previous night, the official said.
Kupwara town in north Kashmir recorded a low of 6.7°C against 0.7°C on the previous night, the official said.
Gulmarg, the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir, recorded a minimum of 1.0°C against minus 2.5°C on the previous night, the official said.
Leh recorded a low of minus 7.6°C against last night’s minus 3.2°C while mercury settled at 3.4°C against previous low of 3.2°C, the official said.
The meteorological department has said that there was no forecast for any major snowfall for now
While isolated to scattered light rain and thundershowers or snow has been predicted over Jammu and Kashmir in next 24 hours, the weatherman has forecast mainly dry weather for at least next week.” (with inputs from KNO, GNS)
