Locals protest ‘water shortage’ in Reshiepora Awantipora

Pulwama: The residents of Reshiepora village of Awantipora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday staged a protest against Public Health Engineering department for failing to provide drinking water to the area.
The protestors mainly women blocked the main Awantipora-Naina road and raised slogans against the department.
The protesters alleged that water supply scheme meant for them remains defunct for months together and such break downs are being witnessed after every two to three days.
They said that whenever there is supply of water, it remains available at just few posts and most posts remain dry.
The locals further added that their children often remain ill due to the use of contaminated water due to which they are unable to attend community classes also.
“We have visited PHE office hundreds of times but except assurances we haven’t got anything from the officials posted there,” said a protestor.
Locals said that they have brought this issue to the notice of higher ups in the district administration several times but to no avail.
The protestors urged the Lt Guv led administration to ensure that steps are taken so that the area gets a permanent supply of potable water.
