Suicide is no option
Sufaya Yousuf
The act of suicide is a grave sin in Islam. Allah Almighty says in the noble Quran:”…And do not kill yourselves (nor kill one another). Surely, Allah is most merciful to you.” (4:29)
Suicide is an action done by those people who had already strayed into disbelief. Suicide is usually the result of despair and the belief that nothing can change (hopelessness). This belief that nothing can change leads to belief that suicide is an option.
Problems in our life are temporary. Ups and downs are part and partial of life. Nothing is permanent, not even when you have been nothing in your life there is still one thing that is hope, faith in our creator. And secondly, if we act patiently and think about how a temporary problem can have a permanent solution.
According to the traditions of Islam, the fate of those who commit suicide is dreadful. According to Hadith, the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) said that those who will kill themselves suffer hellfire. And in hell, they will continue to inflict pain on themselves, according to the method of their suicide. And not only in Islam, but in every religion no one have the right over their life. Like Islam in every other religion it is considered a big sin and is strictly restricted.
We have to understand that why do we feel suicidal. Suicide is in connection with components such as: the weakness of ideological and ethical bases, the lack of perception and disappointment with God, the lack of thinking on the belongings magnifying the hardships and shortages and considering life something meaningless.
But we forget that this life is given by Allah and hardships are part of this life. He is the real owner of life and death. These difficulties and hardships are from Allah. We should believe in this thing that these difficulties cause our spiritual perfection. Committing a suicide is like picking an unripe fruit from the tree before putting it into effect and it is an aggressive and injust action.
The creation of a man is not an accident, but it is in accordance with a divine plan. The creator blessed us with great qualities. It is mandatory for every individual to unlock his potential and play his role that is designated for him.
This world is full of opportunities. If someone fails in doing something; he should take it as a temporary setback, it is not a final failure. It is not a complete end. Failure is very real, but it is not an end destination. It is an another event in the course of life.
A suicidal thought comes in one’s mind at that time when he finds himself in a dead-end and has a lack of faith in God, reliance upon God. At that time a believer must be tolerant and patient because only these two things can move him out of the hole and fall into a well. One who commits suicide feels vain inside but those who have firm faith in God, they consider themselves under the favour of God and they have deep assurance, peace and spiritual joy. They have strong faith that their patience will be rewarded by God. Such people never consider life as meaningless and don’t think of ending their life which is of course a gift from Almighty.
