Muslims are most in need of unity today than ever. Successful preaching and propagating of Tawheed is only possible when the Ummah is united. According to Allama Iqbal, “Stay connected, keep hope for spring from the tree.”
Therefore, a verse of Surah Al-Imran is necessary in this regard: “And hold fast to the rope of Allah, all together, and do not be divided, and remember the favor of Allah upon you, When you were enemies, He (Allah) made peace between your hearts, and by His grace you became brothers.” [Surah Al Imran; 103]
What is the rope of Allah?
According to an account by Zayd ibn Arqam(RA), the Messenger of Allah (Peace Be Upon Him) said: Beware! I am leaving two heavy things between you. One of them is the Book of Allah, which is the rope of Allah.
And the other heavy thing is my family (Book of Virtues of the Companions). In case of any dispute, turn to the Qur’an and hold on to the Qur’an. Try to understand the Qur’an through the understanding of the Companions (RA), not through Sufis, philosophers and theologians.
Considering the concept of collectivity that comes from this verse of the Qur’an is an important requirement of the time.
Sectarianism and individualism are widespread in the ummah. Some think Sufism is a religion and some consider philosophy as a global truth, others look for the chain of Pir Muridi whereas some cry for polytheism and innovation. Ordinary Muslims have deviated from the Quran’s beliefs and its conceptual framework, which is the root cause of sectarianism and factionalism among Muslims. It seems most of the Muslims have developed separate belief systems for themselves so much so that in order to seek guidance from the Quran and Sunnah, they turn to self-made and infidel actions such as “Khatam” and “Shia-Allah”, understanding the graves of the saints as a means of salvation.
Some believe God to be everywhere (Monism) and some see His existence in everything (Pantheism). It is as though Muslims have given the Qur’an the status of a formal book, its teachings and beliefs are not enough for themselves.
Don’t divide! History has shown that a nation that falls into division loses its status and identity. The current situation of Muslims is a reflection of the sun.
What is the status of Muslims in the world?
In more than 40 countries, Muslims have their own government, but instead of preaching and propagating the true message of the Qur’an and Sunnah, they are pulling their own strings. The true face of Islam has been distorted.
According to the poet “Raeh Gayi Rasm i Azaa’n Rooh e Bilaali Na Rahi”.
Former US Consultant Samuel P Huntington has published a book, “Clash Of Civilizations”. In this book, referring to Muslims, he writes that Muslims are a nation that can fight any power in the world, be it the United States or anyone else. Describing his experience, he says that as long as Muslims Remain entangled in differences, it is better for the rest of the nations.
Manfa’at Aik Hai Is Qaum Ki, Nuqsan Bhi Aik
Ek Hi Sab Ka Nabi (S.A.W), Din Bhi, Iman Bhi Aik
Harm-e-Paak Bhi, Allah Bhi, Quran Bhi Aik,
Kuch Bari Baat Thi Hote Jo Musalmaan Bhi Aik!
Muslims community as a whole has been harmed more by their differences than by the external forces. The root cause of this problem is that Muslims have abandoned the path of the Qur’an and Sunnah and the understanding of the Companions resulting their entanglement in ideologies such as Sufism, philosophy and theology.
Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (RA) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: “Do not quarrel among yourselves, If the people before you disagreed, they were killed and destroyed”. [Bukhari 2666]
Let me make it clear here that there are many kinds of differences. Some differences are related to branches and some are related to principle. The branches refer to matters of the religion of Islam which are related to action, while the principles refer to the basic beliefs of the religion of Islam in which any change can lead a person to misguidance and disbelief.
By interpreting the Quran and Sunnah in this manner has not only pushed people into ignorance but also caused major divisions among Muslims.
