The past one week has made the people worrisome as the hype created about the availability of the covid-19 vaccine by the authorities has come down crumbling. It has been almost ten days that no vaccination schedules are being issued.
The issue has been so grave that even the most vulnerable section of the society who have registered during the past 10 days have failed to schedule their vaccine slot. This is reflecting across all the districts in Kashmir valley and the authorities have failed to provide an answer.
The vaccine availability issue was reported almost two weeks back but since then no headway has been made to secure the required doses for the people here. In-fact the administration rubbished all the claims of shortage claiming that enough doses have been made available.
The situation has been so grim that those who were due for the second shot have been even visiting private hospitals for seeking a paid service but even those have been turned down as the private hospitals too have exhausted their stocks.
The non-availability of vaccine can put the fight against the covid-19 in jeopardy as the vaccine provides the only solution to the deadly pandemic. More so, the authorities cannot act complacent as nearly 80 percent of the population is yet to be vaccinated here.
The shortage of vaccines can hamper the work done to control the panemic as less than 2 per cent of the total population in India has been affected by COVID-19 so far and 98 per cent of the population is still susceptible or vulnerable to the infection.
Figures point out that out of the total population in India, 1.8 per cent has been affected by COVID-19 so far and 98 per cent of the population is still susceptible or vulnerable to the infection.
A continued decline has been noted in active cases in the last 15 days as from 17.13 per cent of the total caseload reported on May 3, it has reduced to 13.3 per cent. Besides, eight states have more then 1 lakh active COVID-19 cases and 22 states have more than 15 per cent case positivity.
In such a scenario vaccine can provide the answers to all those questions that have crept in vis-à-vis organizing a planned fight against the pandemic.
Right now the administration at the federal and the state level should focus on procuring vaccine and if the need arises even imported doses should be procured so that the pace at which the vaccination was going on is redoubled.
