LeT militant held in north Kashmir

Srinagar: A Hizbul Mujahideen commander and an army man were killed in an early morning gunfight that broke out in south Kashmir’s Pulwama area on Wednesday morning. Another trooper reportedly was injured during the firefight.
Director General of Police Dilbagh Singh said Hizb-ul-Mujahideen Commander Azaad Lalhari of Pulwahma was killed in the encounter that took place at Kamrazipura area in south Kashmir.
“Azaad Lalhari was involved in the killing of police head constable Anoop Singh on 22 May 2020 at Prichu Pulwahma where he fired at a Naka party,” DGP Dilbag Singh said.
He said six FIRs were against him for militant related killings.
“Earlier he was detained under PSA as OGW and became active again,” the DGP said, adding that charge sheet had been filed against him in two cases earlier.
Besides the militant commander, a soldier was also killed in the gunfight.
Official sources said that militants fired upon a joint team of police, army and CRPF’s 53 battalion after they launched a cordon-and-search operation at Kamrazipura area in the district.
In the initial exchange of firing, two army men were injured and were evacuated to 92 Base Hospital here where one of them succumbed to critical wounds.
Meanwhile, a security force personnel sustained injuries as militants opened fire on a patrol party in Baramulla district of north Kashmir, officials said.
The ultras fired upon the patrol party of 52 Rashtriya Rifles unit at Hygam in Baramulla around 2.45 pm, the officials said.
They said one jawan sustained injuries in the leg.
The area was cordoned off and search operation launched to nab the assailants, the officials said.
In another search operation a a Lashkar-e-Toiba militant was arrested by security forces in Hajin area of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
Official sources said that a joint team of army’s 13RR and police in a joint operation arrested a LeT militant identified as Jehangir@Aqib @Jana resident of Kralgund, Handwara.
He had joined the LeT outfit on 27th June if this year, the official said. (with inputs from GNS)
