Srinagar: Over 5,000 Kashmiri youths have registered for a week-long Army recruitment rally in Baramulla district, a defence spokesman said on Wednesday.
“An Army recruitment rally commenced today at Haiderbeig, Pattan (Baramulla district). The rally will be conducted from July 10 to July 16, 2019 and will test candidates who have come from the districts of Bandipora, Kupwara, Ganderbal, Baramulla, Srinagar, Budgam, Pulwama, Shopian, Anantnag and Kulgam,” the spokesman said.
He said 5,366 candidates from all parts of the valley have registered for the recruitment rally.
“The candidates have to undergo screening for physical fitness, medical examination and documentation. Successful candidates will then undergo a written test on July 28 and August 25, 2019,” he said.
Selected candidates will be inducted into the various arms and services of the Army, the spokesperson said.
“This recruitment rally and similar initiatives across the valley go a long way in meeting the aspirations of the youths of the hinterland and remote areas, who wish to join the Army, serve the nation and carve out a brighter future for themselves and their families,” he added.
The recruitment process is totally computerised and is absolutely transparent. Special emphasis is being paid to make all the prospective candidates understand this process so that they do not fall prey to touts, the spokesman said.
The rally has been organised by the Army Recruitment Office in Srinagar along with the support of local Army units and the civil administration of Baramulla district.
“There would be more rallies conducted in the near future to give greater opportunity to all aspirants of Jammu and Kashmir,” the spokesperson said.
The rally is a step by the Army to ameliorate the conditions of unemployed youth of the Kashmir region, he said, adding that the huge turnout for the recruitment rallies reflects the interest shown by the youth for a career in the Army.
Brigadier Jagdeep Dhaiya, Deputy Director General, Recruitment (Punjab and J&K) expressed satisfaction and deep gratitude to local Army formation and civil authorities for the overwhelming support and cooperation in the smooth and efficient conduct of the rally. (PTI)
