Srinagar: After remaining closed for almost a week authorities are likely to open the strategic Jammu-Srinagar highway for traffic on Sunday.

“All landslide debris on the highway in Ramban district was cleared on Saturday evening. Over 80 trucks carrying essential supplies for the Kashmir Valley were allowed to move,” the traffic officials said.

A landslide hit the highway in Anokhi Fall area early Sunday morning, But the officials said that clearance operation was already underway. “The highway will open after its completion.”

Notably, project Beacon which is involved in the maintenance of the highway had said that the highway has been cleared of the debris at most of the places.

Meanwhile, traffic police authorities on Saturday had said that in the first phase only stranded vehicles will be allowed to proceed towards their destinations.

More than 2200 trucks are reported to be stranded on the highway.
