Swine flu: Four deaths reported during past 24 hours in Kashmir

Srinagar: The swine flu is once again making its presence felt across Kashmir, with total 9 death reported so far at SKIMS and SMHS hospital since September last year. However, four deaths have been reported in just last 24 hours as doctors are stressing that there is no need to panic.
Two patients have died in last 24 hours at SKIMS, while as two more have succumbed at SMSH. There were total of three patients who were admitted at SMHS while as at SKIMS, currently 8 patients are admitted and are undergoing treatment.
Medical Superintendent, SKIMS DrFarooq Jan told ‘Kashmir Vision’ that 9 deaths have been reported at the hospital so far at SKIMS, “9 deaths have been reported so far, out of total 48 patients who were brought to SKIMS,” he said.
While most of them have been discharged, “9 deaths have been reported so far, with currently 8 patients being treated at the hospital,” Dr Jan said.
Commenting on the deaths that have been reported at SKIMS, Dr Jan said that all the patients, and those two who died in last twenty four hours, were having co-morbidity.
“Having co-morbidities further weaken the immune system of the patients, and the flu makes the situation even worse. Those deaths that have been reported at the SKIMS were having one or the other kind of comorbidity, some were suffering from malignancies of varied kind such as hematological malignancies, some were having cardiac issues,” Dr Jan added.
While eight are currently admitted at SKIMS, the condition of one among them is said to be a critical. Earlier on Wednesday, only three were admitted at SKIMS after being tested positive for H1N1.
At SMHS, DrSaleemTak had earlier said that three patients were undergoing treatment at the hospital after they tested positive for H1N1, however, two have succumbed out of three, while as, one is still being treated at the hospital.
The doctors are advising people to take precautions and not panic.
President Doctors’ Association of Kashmir, DrSuhailNaik, while talking to ‘Kashmir Vision’ said that there was no need to panic, as the virus, which remains in the surroundings, gets more active in the winter season.
“People should not panic. They should carry on with their routine, and the section of the people which is more vulnerable to the virus is those who are suffering from other different diseases, such as cardiac issues, cancer or diabetes,” he said.
DrNaik has advised such people should get themselves vaccinated on the onset of the winter season, while reiterating that there was no need to panic.
