Srinagar: A septuagenarian woman was killed soon after she got down from a Sumo vehicle along with other passengers and started to travel towards Tanghdar while it was snowing heavily at Sadna Top in Karnah Kupwara on Friday.

Reports said that the 75-year-old women died, apparently due to cold, while on way from Kupwara to karnah near Khooni Nalah at Sadhna Top.

The deceased woman was identified as Taja Begum (75) wife of Abdul Qayoom Khawaja, a resident of Teetwal.

“The woman was travelling in a cab which got stuck at Sadhna Top due to heavy snowfall. The passengers on board were asked to travel by foot towards Tangdhar. The deceased woman was among the passengers who breathed her last near Khoni Nallah (at Sadhna Top),” a police official said.

He said that the woman might have died to the severe cold conditions prevalent in the area.

Pertinently, the road connecting Tanghdar with Kupwara was thrown open on Friday.

“The road was open for vehicular movement till this afternoon. But it started snowing at Sadhna Top, where some vehicles, which were already on way to Tangdhar from Kupwara, got stuck,” the official said. (with inputs from GNS)
