Srinagar: The night temperature remained in plus in Srinagar as the MeT office here has predicted another spell of rains and snowfall from today evening.

Srinagar recorded 0.2 degree Celsius as the minimum temperature on Thursday while Pahalgam and Gulmarg recorded minus 7.3 and minus 8.5 degree Celsius, respectively, the MeT office said.

Leh recorded minus 13.3 degree Celsius and it was minus 17.6 degree Celsius in Kargil. Drass was coldest town in Kashmir where the minimum temperature was minus 19.7 degree Celsius.

Jammu had 6.5 degrees Celsius, Katra 5.8 degrees Celsius, Batote 0.1 degree Celsius, Bannihal minus 0.4 degree Celsius and Bhaderwah minus 1.9 degree Celsius as the minimum temperature on Thursday.

The minimum temperature across the Kashmir Valley dropped on Thursday due to clear night sky as the weather office forecast another spell of rain and snow beginning Friday.

“We are expecting another spell of moderate rain and snowfall from Friday afternoon. The weather will remain inclement till January 6 and there would be improvement after that,” a Met department official said.

Meanwhile, the only all-weather road, the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, which links the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country, reopened for one-way traffic on Thursday. The highway was closed on Wednesday morning due to fresh snowfall.

“The snow clearance operation started at around 1 pm on Wednesday along the Jawahar tunnel and Qazigund. It took almost four hours for workers to clear the road for one-way traffic” a senior traffic department official said.

The traffic will be allowed to ply from Jammu towards Srinagar, he said.
