12946 criminal cases registered, 11880 disposed off: IGP

Srinagar: IGP Kashmir Zone, S P Pani on Wednesday said that 12946 criminal cases were registered in 2018 in which 11880 cases were disposed of, taking the disposal rate to 61 per cent.
Addressing media men he said that in non-militancy related case, 97 murder cases were registered in the year 2018 while as 32 have been disposed of, adding that 312 cases were registered under narcotic act while 482 have been arrested in this regard and 222 cases have been placed for challan, taking the rate to 71 per cent.
He said that 143 domestic assault cases were registered in 2018 and 89 among them have been disposed of, adding that 762 burglary cases and 387 vehicle theft cases were registered in the previous year while as 342 and 148 cases respectively were disposed of, adding that in burglary cases 420 cases are still pending.
The IGP further added that 35 eve teasing cases were registered in the year 2018 while as 30 among them have been challenged, thus taking the percentage of disposal rate to 86 percent.
He added that 2006 road mishaps took place in the Valley in which 272 persons lost their lives, adding that 225 deaths have occur because of four-wheelers, 46 deaths because of two wheelers while as one has occurred because of three wheeler. The IGP further said that 2551 persons sustained injuries in the mishaps while 2089 were injured because of four wheelers, 421 due to two wheelers and 41 due to three wheelers.
