Srinagar: A day after four AK-47 rifles went missing from the official residence of Congress legislator Muzaffar Ahmad Parray, the four cops guarding his residence were dismissed from services for ‘dereliction’ of duty.
Pertinently on Sunday, suspected militants decamped with four AK-47 rifles from the guard room at the official residence of Parray at J-37, Government Quarters at Jawahar Nagar.
Officials said that the four cops deployed as PSO’s with Parray have been dismissed from service for ‘dereliction of duties and unauthorized absence’.
They said that all the four policemen -three from the security wing and another from Sopore district police -posted at Parray’s residence were earlier summoned for questioning besides ordering an enquiry in this regard. The MLC has said that he was in Jammu from the past one month along with his family.
“During their initial interrogation, one of the policemen revealed that when the incident took place, he was alone at the quarter and his associate had gone to LalDed hospital to see his relative while two other policemen were not present there,” the source said.
“He (a policeman) disclosed that some unidentified gunmen entered quarter number J-37 early on Sunday morning and pointed a gun at him and sought details about weapons. He stated that they (gunmen) later decamped with all the four weapons and before he could raise the alarm, the gunmen fled from the spot,” the source added.
The source said the “gunmen” had managed their entry into the quarter on the pretext of “repairing an electricity supply line.”
“It seems that they were fully aware of the fact that only one policeman was present in the quarter. The role of insiders can’t be ruled out,” the source added.
On September 29, Adil Bashir Sheikh, a special police officer deployed with former Peoples Democratic Party legislator Aijaz Mir decamped with seven rifles and Mir’s licensed pistol from his official Jawahar Nagar quarter (J-11).
At least seven PSOs of Mir were placed under suspension and are serving detention since then.
