Srinagar: As the temperature in Kashmir Valley is dipping on minus scale with every passing day, the Health Department Friday issued an advisory asking people to take due precautions to stay healthy and fit this winter amid cold temperature.
The advisory issued by Directorate of Health Services, Kashmir (DHSK), while saying that elders of more than 65 years of age and infants are at high risk, have been asked to wear warm clothes in layers, while keeping the exposed body party such as hands and feet warm.
It has advised people suffering from heart diseases and high blood pressure to avoid exertion in cold weather as the cold weather makes the heart work harder in order to keep the body warm. It also says that the cold weather leads to increased formation of clots that can lead to heart attack and stroke.
“In case of chest pain contact doctor immediately,” it advises.
In order to keep the body hydrated, the advisory has asked people to eat balanced diet and drink frequent warm beverages, preferably Kehwa, so that the body remains hydrated and is subsequently kept warm.
The advisory has stressed on remaining active indoors, while advising not sit for long periods of time and “move around once every hour,” so as to keep the body in motion.
For those who are working outside, it has advised people to work slowly and take frequent breaks in order to avoid exertion.
