Kulgam town shuts against pesky power cuts
Kulgam: A complete shutdown was observed on Thursday in south Kashmir’s Kulgam town to mark a protest against the Power Development Department (PDD) for ‘failing to provide adequate electricity to the area’.
Locals said that all the shops and other business establishments remained closed in the area while vehicular movement was also thin on the roads to mark a protest against the pesky power cuts.
The shutdown call was given by People’s Welfare Committee of District Kulgam which also held a protest on Thursday morning against Power Development Department (PDD).
A member of the committee said that “Kulgam is being discriminated and the department has paid no heed to the pleas of general public regarding improving the supply of electricity.”
“The township is witnessing pesky power cuts, thus forcing the people to hit the streets,” he said.
