Former KU VC dies, Guv, mainstream leaders condole his demise
Srinagar: Noted writer, teacher and a former vice chancellor of the University of Kashmir, Professor HabibullahHamidi Kashmiri passed away late last night.
Kashmiri was a noted Urdu and Kashmiri poet and writer. He breathed his last at his Srinagar residence last night.
Kashmiri is credited with 50 books, IqtishafiTanqeed Ki Sheryat, AinameIbraaq, MahasirTanqeed, Riyasati Jammu Aur Kashmir Urdu Adab, JadeedKashirShayeri and Shiekh–ul-AalamAurShayeri being some of the notable ones.
Hamidi Kashmiri is a recipient of the Ghalib Award and SahityaAkademi Award (2005). The Government of India honored him in 2010, with the third highest civilian award of Padma Shri.
The demise of Hamidi was widely condoled by the mainstream political party leaders and others who also prayed for the eternal peace to the departed soul.
Governor Satya Pal Malik expressed grief over the sad demise of Padma Shri awardee Prof. Hamidi Kashmiri, a noted writer, poet and former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kashmir.
In his message, Governor has prayed for peace to the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family in its hour of grief.
National Conference President Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Vice President Omar Abdullah also expressed heartfelt grief over the demise of Kashmiri.
DrFarooq while expressing grief said, “I express my condolences with the bereaved family and pray for eternal peace to the departed soul,” he said adding, “Hamidi’s contribution to the field of Urdu literature is immense. People of his competence and wisdom are a godsend gift for any society. He shall be remembered for his contribution to the field of academics, and literature, may Almighty bless his soul.”
Omar Abdullah while expressing his grief said, “Our state has lost a literary genius. I pray to Almighty for peace to the departed soul.”
Senior Congress leader and leader of opposition in RajyaSabha, GhulamNabi Azad has expressed his deep sorrow on the sad demise of former Vice Chancellor, eminent poet, writer and critic Prof. Hamidi Kashmiri.
“Hamidi was an eminent scholar and his death has created a vacuum, which is otherwise a big loss to all of us. I pray the almighty to give strength and courage to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss. May the departed soul rest in peace,” said Azad.
PDP President and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti also condoled the demise of well-known litterateur, poet, novelist and critic, Prof Kashmiri.
In her condolence message, Mehbooba Mufti recalled the contribution of Prof. Hamidi Kashmiri towards literature, particularly Urdu criticism which she said earned him a distinctive place even on the national level. In his demise, the Urdu literature has lost a doyen and the State has lost a shining star, she said in her message.
The PDP President has conveyed her sympathies to the bereaved family of Prof. Hamidi and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President, Ghulam Ahmad Mir also expressed profound grief over the passing away of Prof. Hamidi and conveyed his deepest condolences to bereaved family.
In his condolence message, Mir said Prof. Hamidi Kashmiri was most valued educationist and institution, who has contributed enough to reform the education system in the Kashmir university, describing him as an illustrious son of the soil.
A recipient of the Ghalib, SahityaAkademi and Padma Awards, Late. Hamid Kashmiri was a noble soul, and an upright personality, Mir said, adding the passing away of Prof. Hamid Kashmiri is a great loss to the State, which cannot be replaced by anything.
Former finance minister Syed Mohammad AltafBukhari also expressed deep shock and grief over the demise of Professor Hamidi.
Describing the deceased as one of the great scholars who lived a very simple life, Bukhari said the contribution of Prof Hamidi in the field of literature, poetry and prose shall be remembered for times to come.
He said the deceased was an illustrious son of the soil, who carved a niche in the field of literature as a great Urdu critic and earned a distinctive place outside the state as well.
He said that Prof Hamidi’s literary genius was recognized by the country by honouring him with many awards including Ghalib Award, SahityaAkademi Award and the third highest civilian award of Padma Shri.
“As an administrator Late Prof. Hamidi shall be remembered for his reforms in education during his tenure as the Vice Chancellor of University of Kashmir,” the former finance minister said.
While expressing solidarity with the bereaved family, his friends and acquaintances, Bukhari prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul and courage to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.
Meanwhile, Vice President, J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, ZafarIqbalManhas, also mourned the demise of noted Urdu writer, critic and academic, Prof. Kashmiri.
While mourning the demise of the academic-litterateur, Manhas said that he shares the grief of the family and prays for eternal peace to the departed soul.
Describing Prof. Hamidi Kashmiri as a tall literary figure, the JKAACL Vice President said that the late writer-academic will always be remembered for his prolific literary works.
“On account of his lifelong service to the fields of academics and literature, Prof. Hamidi will always be remembered by us all,” Manhas said in his condolence message.
