Two army JCO’s killed in sniper attack
Srinagar: Two army officers were killed in a ‘sniper attack’ by Pakistani troops along the Line of Control in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Friday afternoon.
Official sources said that Pakistan army in “violation of ceasefire” opened the sniper fire on the army’s 2/8 GR posts in Peer Baba Grahat Post along the LoC in Jumgund area.
Two army officers suffered serious injuries in the attack and were immediately evacuated to military hospital Drugmulla where one of them, Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) SubidarGamarThapa (42) succumbed to injuries, they said.
The other injured, Junior Commissioned Officer Subidar Raman Thapa was later referred to army’s 92 base hospitalBadamibagh Srinagar for advanced treatment. However, he succumbed to injuries at the hospital.
A senior police officer confirmed the incident and said that the troops responded the fire triggering off the cross-border shelling in the area which was intermittently going on when this report was filed.
A senior army officer also confirmed the death of both JCOs as he further said that details with regard to the incident would be shared later. (GNS)
