Khidmat centres charge extra money for services offered, allege locals

Tral: While the government has put out Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme almost free for people, the Khidmat centres in Tral are charging money from people who throng the centres to download the cards that have been issued to them after getting registered.
A group of locals told ‘Kashmir Vision’ that the Khidmat centres are charging them money, which is against the rules and regulations. The government has notified that Rs 30/- will be charged from those who will be registered with the scheme.
“A letter was sent to me after registration, for downloading the card, I went to the nearby Khidmat centre and they charged me Rs 100/- which is illegal,” said Ghulam Nabi Kantru.
Another local belonging to a Gujjar community said that he was also charged more than what has been notified, “this is not done, for us Rs 70 is a big amount, these centres are fleecing the innocent public,” said Fareed Khan.
When the matter was brought into the notice of District Developmental Commissioner (DDC), Pulwama, G M Dar he assured that he will look into the matter as soon as possible.
“I do have knowledge of the issue. I will soon talk to the concerned. I assure you that I will look into the matter, as the general public should not be fleeced like this,” Dar said.
Pertinently, the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme which was launched in the state on December 1 is said to benefit over 31 lakh beneficiaries in the state.
Notably, the scheme is aiming at improving and strengthening healthcare at all levels. The government has so far empanelled 144 government and private hospitals in the state and the drive is currently on for the registration of beneficiaries for Golden Cards.
