Will oppose her decision tooth and nail, says Sikh girls father
Alleges that his daughter wants to become famous overnight
Srinagar: While Manjot Singh Kohli, a girl in her twenties is willing to donate a kidney to her Muslim ‘friend,’ back home her family is devastated as his father is bed-ridden after he met with an accident and is equally shocked by the decision of Manjot.
Injured Gurdeep Singh, a shopkeeper by profession says that his daughter has taken a life-changing decision in haste and was trying to become a ‘hero’ overnight.
“You come and see my condition, she is my only hope, I am myself a patient and tomorrow she will come home and be like just another patient in the family, I cannot afford that,” he said while talking to ‘Kashmir Vision’.
Singh said one has to see first whether his/ her family is doing well, only then one can venture out and start helping others.
“I am a shopkeeper and I am not in a good condition financially. I educated her only to become a support for my old age,” he said, adding that “her decision has devastated the family and me in particular.”
He said that people from his community (Sikhs) living in Kashmir called him and complimented him regarding what his daughter had decided to do, “Why can’t any Muslim donate a kidney to that girl, isn’t their duty first to come forward,” Singh asked.
Manjot’s father said that she was trying to become ‘famous’ overnight and that the family is not going to approve of what she has decided to do.
“She is trying to become famous overnight and nothing else. Not at any cost will the family allow her to do what she is intending to do. I have written to the SKIMS, Soura and I have told them that I am against the decision,” he said.
When asked that the Manjot has decided to move court regarding the family objections, Singh said that he will oppose the move tooth and nail, “Court will ask me and I will categorically reject her plea, I have my arguments,” he said.
Further, Singh says that he does not even know the girl to whom Manjot is willing to donate the kidney.
“She (Manjot) is saying that she knows the girl for last 4 years, but I have come to know about the girl the day when the news broke about the kidney donating affair,” he said.
