Bovine smuggler detained under PSA

Jammu: A man was slapped with the Public Safety Act (PSA) and detained for his alleged involvement in bovine smuggling in Rajouri district, police said Wednesday.
The accused, Mohammad Amin, is a resident of Badhoon village of Rajouri and has a number cases registered against him in the district, they said.
He was found involved in bovine smuggling and thus becoming a threat to peaceful atmosphere, forcing authorities to detain him under the PSA, they added.
A dossier for his detention was submitted to the district magistrate by Rajouri SSP, who in turn issued the order for his detention, they said.
The accused has been sent to Kot Bhalwal Central Jai in Jammu.
Another bovine smuggler was detained under the PSA a week ago.
Meanwhile, police arrested two bovines smugglers and rescued 14 animals in Samba district.
A police party during checking on highway at Tapyal in the district signalled to stop a truck, which was coming from the Kathua side, police said.
On seeing them, the driver accelerated the vehicle and tried to escape from the spot, but after a successful chase, the truck was intercepted near at Nonath, they said.
During checking of the vehicle, 14 bovines were found laden inside the vehicle which were being transported illegally without any permission, police said.
The accused driver and his associates — Shabir Shah and Ashiq Ali Shah –were arrested on the spot, they said, adding that the vehicle involved in the bovine smuggling was also seized, they said.
A case has been registered at Ghagwal police station in this regard and an investigation is underway, police said. (PTI)
