Anantnag: So far the first of its kind, one among the slain militants, Waris Ahmad who was killed in Kulgam encounter on Tuesday had bought a weapon after selling his vehicle and joined the militant ranks.
Waris Ahmad Malik, son of Bashir Ahmad Malik of Moman Arwani area of Bijbehara Tehsil in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district was killed along with his associate Aijaz Ahmad in the Kulgam encounter today.
The slain militant had also performer Hajj while he was working in Saudi Arabia for almost three years.
One of his friends told ‘Kashmir Vision’ that he left for Saudi Arabia for job when he was pursuing his B.A 2nd year.
“After working there for more than two years, he performed hajj there as well and came back in the beginning of 2018,” he said.
He added that the slain militant bought his own vehicle later, he said, adding after about four months, slain Waris sold the vehicle and bought a gun to join the militant ranks.
“From his early age, Waris was a pious person and used to offer prayers five times a day,” said one of his neighbour, adding that “he was running a ‘Darasgah’ in his own village where he was teaching the Holy Quran to the children of his area.”
His relative said that Waris was inclined towards militancy from his teen age but was never arrested by forces before he joined militant ranks in August this year.
Meanwhile, thousands of people participated in his funeral prayers and he was laid to rest in his native area after multiple rounds of funeral prayers.
Eyewitness said that the funeral prayers were held at the compound of Govt Middle School Moman in which thousands of people participated.
Pertinently two local LeT militants and an army man were killed in an overnight encounter in Redwani area of Kulgam district.
