Srinagar: While small institutions prefer to issue printed degrees, the SKIMS is still issuing handwritten degrees to the candidates who are declared qualified for various degrees. It has now decided to do away with the trend and start issuing printed degrees in a month.

So far, all the degrees that have been issued by the SKIMS are handwritten, making them vulnerable to any fraud, however, after the issue was brought into the notice of the SKIMS administration, it said that they will do away with the practice soon.

“We will start issuing printed degrees soon. The arrangements needed will be put in place within a month,” said Dr Pervaiz Kaul, Registrar Academics SKIMS.

There are a number of degrees that have been issued to the candidates and are handwritten, Kaul said, adding that from now on they will issue printed degrees and those issued already will also be taken care of.

“Now, we will issue printed degrees to the candidates, and the degrees that have been already issued, that will be left to the candidates, if they want printed degrees, they will have to apply for it,” Kaul said.
The degrees issued by SKIMS do not carry a photograph of the candidate, making it even more vulnerable to the fraud. In order to tackle that, Kaul said: “we will be including the photographs as well.”
