Shopian: Special Police Officer (SPO) Basharat Ahmad Wagay was killed by the unknown gunmen after he was abducted by them late Friday evening from Reban village of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Basharat Ahmad Wagay son of Bashir Ahmad Wagay of Reban Shopian was found in orchards of Nikloora village of Pulwama district. He was the lone son in his family as his sister is already married, said his relative.
Basharat as per the family was the lone son of the family and he was recently bellesed with a son, said the relative.
On Friday evening, the unknown gunmen had abducted three persons from Reban village who were identified by police as Riyaz Ahmad, Zahid Ahmad and Basharat Ahmad Wagay a (former SPO).
However, on late Friday evening, the dead body of former SPO was found in Nikloora area while as two others were freed prior to his killing, a police official said.
Sources said that his bullet-ridden body was found barely few metres away from the spot where the dead body of Nadeem Manzoor was found few days before, who according to police was killed by Hizb militants.
As per his family sources, Basharat was abducted from his house by unknown gunmen on Friday evening and later they were informed by police that his dead body has been found.
Basharat according to the locals was son of a police officer and was working in police department as SPO. However, he resigned from the job recently.
The slain former SPO got married before two years in his native village, they said adding that his only sister is also married.
Belonging to a well-off family, Basharat’s house is barely few metres from the house where two Al-badr militants including Nawaz Ahmad were killed on last Sunday.
Meanwhile, Hizb has released a video in which Basharat is accepting that he informed forces about the presence of Nawaz and his associate ‘for seeking a promotion’.
Notably, in last one week, about one dozen youth have been abducted by unknown gunmen, among them two youth Nadeem Manzoor of Safnagri Shopian and Huzaif Kuttay of Manzgam Kulgam were killed and Parvaiz Ahmed of Butmuran Shopian was injured while as others were freed from captivity.
A senior police official said that Hizb and Al Badr militants have jointly killed Basharat.
A case has been registered in concerned police station and further investigation is going on, he said.
